Re: wreck & cenote cozumel advice please I have been in this area several times, which is both Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. I am happy on both sides. If you prefer it a bit quieter, I think Cozumel is the better choice. There are many little Restaurants around the square, and some really good ones a bit hidden away. Playa del Carmen is a bit more lively and you can have a really good time, in many of the local clubs. It is also very easy o get to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen, as they have regular ferry trips from early in the morning till about 21:00. The tip is about 40 minutes and cost 11 Dollars.
The wreck on Cozumel is a very good dive. It lays upright on the ground in about 20 metres of water. The current can be quite strong in the area. The wreck is well prepared to be penetrated and it perfect for training dives. There is also a good variety of marine life on the wreck in particular many lobsters.
The Cenotes are a fantastic experience, and well worth a dive or two. There are few available for diving. The Cenotes have a combination of fresh and saltwater, and the water is very clear. I never really understood the saying “It is like diving in Gin”, but since diving the Cenotes, I understand what these people mean. Just make sure that you are going to dive with a well respected and trained Centoes Guide.
I hope you are having a great time. I have good contacts in this area and if you are not yet sure with whom you want to go diving then let me know as I am happy to provide you with some contacts.
always safe diving.
