Re: Deciding on course length Short versus long!!!!
Working in various Resorts for the last 15 years suggests that I am leaning towards the short courses, as this is what we do in Resorts. People are on holiday and want to learn to dive. 3 days however might be a bit short. However this obviously depends on how many people are taking the course and how quickly can you move on.
Talking about the PADI Open Water Diver Course; if there are a couple of student divers which do not have major problems in the water with any of the skills and have completed the independent study portion of the course, then I think it is possible to complete the Open Water Diver Course in three days.
All PADI programs are perfomrance based, which means that it is the abilities of the student divers dictating the pace of the course. Doing this course over a few days also has the advantage that you are into it every day all day.
Doing the course over a few weeks period is mainly for people which are completeing the program at home and dont have three days in a row to complete the course. Most of the time you will be meeting at the dive centre one or two evenings to complete the academic sections and the confined water training sections of the open water course. Then, mostly on weekends, you will be going to the open water site where you are going to complete the open water training dives. With this schedule it will take easily 3 to 4 weeks to complete a course.
Depending where you are and what your plans are, either of the two options have it's pro and con.
Have a good ime and let me know if you need any further assistance.
