Hello, i never been to diving nor to snorkeling, but my son is always amazed by divers and under water world, every time he watch something in TV about diving or underwater marine life, he fly of thinking about it, we go to a lot of vacations by the sea.
My son is 10 years old and i think diving will be his first ambition, am thinking not to waste time and i want to get him into diving courses, he is an excellent swimmer.
Is there any chance that he can start diving in this age?

Of course he can, Diving minimum age is 10 and all the diving certification agencies provide courses for such ages, he can register to one of these courses to start his diving life.

Good afternoon

Good question about your son learning to dive. and as Daniel said, it is no porblem to have your son learning to dive, as far as his age is concerned.

However there is a couple of issues which need to be looked at. Being able to learn to dive with an age of 10 is the absolute minimum, but not every 10 year old is able to actually learn at that age. It is important that your son is mature enough to grasp the various concepts, which will ensure his safety and enjoyment. There is various training agencies teaching children to dive. I personally find the PADI system the most beneicial one. PADI ofers the training materials in various formats, such as books, multimedia, and e-leanring. Which ever way your son prefers to go through the knowledge development, will be available to him.

The next thing you need to look at is where he is completing is training. Children get cold much quicker than adults, and therefore must have the suitable exposure protection, such as suits, gloves and hoods. A lot of dive operators actually state that they cater for children, but are not really equipped with the correct scuba gear to do so. To be able to teach children, smaller tanks, suits, and the correct regulaotrs shoul be made available to ensure the best comfort for your child.

I have taught a lot of children to dive and it is very rewarding to see these kids get into the sports, but make sure you do get your research done, where you want him to complete his training.

All the best and please let me know how he gets on and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Always safe diving
