Can caffeine affect the absorption of nitrogen when scuba diving?
I wonder if caffeine affect the absorption of nitrogen while diving, and is it really a remarkable effect, am open water certified diver, and i like coffee before doing anything, shall i stop it before diving??
Re: Can caffeine affect the absorption of nitrogen when scuba diving?
Yes, in a way. Caffeine is a diuretic ( as is booze), it dehydrates you. It's been shown that dehydration can increase the chance of sustaining a DCS hit ( decompression sickness). Always dive hydrated and bring bottled water with you. The air in a tank has been dehumidified at the filling station and every breath you exhale, litterally, takes a lot out of you.
Dive safe
