Arrow Re: Can you SCUBA dive after you have a Hip Replacement?

There's nothing in the new joint that will get in the way of diving. The question will be the length of time required by your body to complete the post operative healing process. For that, even your Doc won't be able to say 100% until after you've had the procedure. When he gets a good idea on your pace of recovery, they ought to be able to better let you know when you can get back into diving.
Treat diving as a strenuous activity.

I’d say ask your doctor but in my opinion if your up and walking i'd think scuba diving would be good for building up strength without putting weight on it

Make sure you have your leg hooked on a chain. You don't want it floating away on you.

Good thing is -- if a great white is lurking, you could beat it with your leg and reattach it later.

Good luck.

Definitely not! Your friend will be able to dive one day yes but definitely not directly after a Hip replacement. This is based on experience and observation in the frontline. Don't dive before 100% recovery. Of course ask you Doctor first but leave at least 3 months for a simple fracture. Some Docs will maybe do not know the influence of nitrogen over saturation in the body. Maybe 1 year for a bigger operation if not prescribed longer from you specialist. It's difficult to give a general rule but avoiding diving before having finished the physiotherapy period seems safe to me.

Thumbs up Re: Can you SCUBA dive after you have a Hip Replacement?

I agree with Mako, you have to wait until you are totally recovered, and dont rush when you start until you feel the power again....Also If you’re Doctor / Surgeon says it's OK

then it may be good therapy...

Good Luck for your friend
