Marine Conservation Volunteer Programme News At Kenna Eco Diving we are having a busy start to our research season this year!
Last week a Polish TV crew came to dive with us for a series on Eco Tourism. They interviewed me about our voluntary research with the Silmar Project and filmed us volunteers at work. Their divers were amazed at the biodiversity here on the Costa Brava at our research stations and within the Medes Islands Marine Reserve.
Next week is European Fish Week (4-11th June). With other Spanish members of OCEAN2012 we are hosting an exhibition to raise public awareness of the issue of overfishing and a Havaneras (traditional sea shanties accompanied by cremat - a hot and spicy rum toddy - brought back from Cuba by Catalan fishermen). Do come and join us at this free event at the Port, L'Escala!
Also next week, on 8th June it is World Ocean Day. For this Kenna Eco Diving and our volunteers will be diving to clean up rubbish for Project AWARE and also hiding a "swim" for SWIMMERS, a group that has launched an underwater treasure hunting game (like underwater geo-caching for divers and snorkelers). There are already several "swims" hidden along the Costa Brava and an ongoing competition to find the most treasure. You are welcome to join us for this dive!
If you’re considering joining us as a volunteer this summer please note that we are now fully booked during 27 July to 13 Aug and have only 2 spaces left from 5 – 12 September, so please request June, early July or 14 August onwards.
