Rep Power: 0 | | Red Sea Sharks I'm almost certain this must have been asked before, but to no avail. So... I'm going to the Red Sea within the next few months and want only one thing: To see a shark. Not hundreds. Just one. So where should I go? And unfortunately I won't be doing any liveaboards this time. Much obliged for your helpful suggestions or tips |

Rep Power: 0 | | Sharks South, South, South - Marsa Alam (chances of oceanic white tips at Elphinstone). You might see the odd one at Sharm (Ras Mohammed or Tiran Reefs) but they are much rarer in that neck of the woods |

Rep Power: 0 | | Re:Sharks Magic. Thanks . I take it you've been then? Any advice on dive centres/hotels etc? I'm unfortunately very particular when it comes to who I dive with. There's absolutely nothing on this earth worse than a sh*te dive guide and boat!

Rep Power: 0 | | Marsa Shagra definitely South, I went to Marsa Alam last August and stayed at the Marsa Shagra dive camp. I went with Oonas and the dive operation is run by Red Sea Divers. It's a fantastic place I stayed in a tent on the beach. I did Elphinstone most morning early and saw Hammerheads, Oceanic Whitetips and several pods of dolphins. The house reef is also amazing and is an easy shore dive with zodiacs that can drop you a bit further along. There are also truck dives which take you to various places including Marsa Abu Dabbab where I was lucky enough to see the resident dugong! Can't wait I'm going again this year! |

Rep Power: 0 | | Re: Red Sea Sharks Yes I got up around 5.30 and we were leaving in the zodiac around 6,from memory! We were around 30-35 m when we saw the first lot over the northern plateau and then a bit later at about 20m. I didn’t see Oceanic’s while diving (a bit too early apparently I went in August) however when my mate and I had finished our dive and waiting for the others on the zodiac we jumped in to snorkel with some dolphins we spotted earlier and ended up right in front of an Oceanic I don't know who was more freaked out! That was a very near encounter.. I went there on my own last year a little bit apprehensive about meeting people but I needn’t have worried, I met some top people and even met my dive buddy on the bus from the airport. We stay together the whole time, at mealtimes no-one sits on their own, it's just not that type of holiday. |

Rep Power: 10 | | Re: Red Sea Sharks Yes definitely south... As much south as possible.
Starting from Marsa Alam and further south should be OK.
White tip lagoon sharks and in the blue white tip Oceanic sharks (Longimanus).
Spring is a good season for sharks in the Red Sea.
Have a nice trip and good dives...

Rep Power: 0 | | Re: Red Sea Sharks Hi ! I've been diving in Red sea several times and, even if it's not the best spot iof the world to meet sharks...the place I would recommand you would be Ras Mohammed (Sharm el Sheikh). I was there two weeks ago and, during the very first dive in Ras, we saw a wale shark from the boat (so we dove with him !), then an other while we where diving. Have fun ! Mathylda ! |
