Smile The Great wall of china - Diving the Great Wall

I found some information on the internet about diving the great china wall, of course we all know the Great Wall of China, and some may have visited it but really I know no one dived

To get to the dive site you have to take a small boat for 40minutes from the pier, where you cross the lake which is protected by surrounding mountains.
The first 3-5meters the visibility isn’t good due to the algae taking a liking to the warm waters and in need of the sun, below this point the visibility starts to get better up until about 20meters when the temperature drops to 11C, with a temperature at 7C below that!

A few more fin kicks and you will see this huge silhouette about 6 meters tall.

Swimming along the wall you will come across a big hole in the wall, it was a gate to a tower! One at a time swim through this short corridor being very careful not to touch the wall or kick up the mud to come out the other side.
You will encounter bricks from the great wall and some remaining building.
Its amazing seeing this huge wall still standing even after being underwater for the last 30+ years which also defended against the enemy thousands of years prior!

What an amazing adventure, i hope to do it one day.

Post Re: The Great wall of china - Diving the Great Wall

Hi Jack, is this the information you are referring to that you found: Big Blue SCUBA Diving Shanghai of China - Photo and Video - The Great wall of china - Underwater Great Wall ?

we're also running trips this year to the dive site: Big Blue SCUBA Diving Shanghai of China - Big Blue Trip - Dive Underwater Great Wall, Beijing

The trip is marked from Shanghai to Shanghai but no reason why people couldn't meet us in Beijing for it.

Thanks for posting the information, i was just searching today to see how people have been using it, feel free to link to the photos or video or reproduce the text as long as you give credit and a link back.

if you send me an email i'll keep you updated with our up coming expeditions, the last one was a few weeks ago where we re-discovered an ancient underwater city named Lions City in 1000 islands lake, we've done a write up on it and posted some photos, going back armed with the video camera and photo camera's end of may.

next trip is next weekend to some small islands south of shanghai which appear to contain plenty of marine life and nudibranchs (i'll confirm with a photo if true)

Thanks again!

Paul
