Question Gear purchasing advice?

Am planning a big trip on a liveaboard later this month and want to get some gear for mytrip. But, i have a limited budget. Right now am thinking i will get a regulator and then get 1 dive computer to with a friend.

Question 1: I know about the different types of regulators and each types pros and cons, but for the money, does anyone have recommendations for brand and type?

Question 2: I've read about what brand of dive computers people like, but do you think 1 dive computer between the 2 of us is sufficient?

Thanks!

Looking and inquiring around some local dive shops in your vicinity would be a good bet on getting up-to-date equipment at a substantial saving. This is the best route if you're looking for used equipment. Make sure they're not multi year used equipments!

Definitely buy your own reg, octo, and computer. You can rent BCs. You should already have your own fins, mask, snorkel from your OW course.

Under no circumstances should you share a computer. Your life is worth more than the money that a computer will cost. And I can't imagine a dive op letting you share one either. How will you know how much air is in your tank?

I understand being on a budget, we've all been there. But how much is your life worth?

Thank you all so far on the help, but I think I didn't clarify my dive computer question. Both of us will get same kind of gauge, but we were thinking that we would get one digital dive computer instead of just a gauge so that it would allow for a better count on our bottom time and whatnot. We will be doing all of our dives together so we didn't think we'd both need to have a digital computer. Does that sound like a logical way to save money?
Thanks again!

Cool Re: Gear purchasing advice?

Don't Share a computer. Think of what you would do if a computer fails during a dive, even if the buddy has one the dive gets aborted, if you have only one you may be the next subject for Lessons for Life.

Wink Re: Gear purchasing advice?

Liveaboards. They will NOT allow you to share one computer. You will either have to rent one from them or dive tables. Buying only one computer is NOT the way to save money.
