Re: Scuba diving regulator maintainence advice!! To look after Regulators is not very difficult and if done properly, you will your regs for a long time. Make sure that the Regulators are serviced on an, at least, annual basis.
When you get your kit ready than make sure that you pay attention that the regs are always sitting nicely in the relevant groove of the tank valve (except if you are using a DIN valve) Tighten the first stage finger tight. When you open the tank then slightly depress the purge button of the second stage in order reduce the immidiate pressure increase on the pressure seats. when transporting the diving equipment already assembeled, put the regulator inside the BCD for protection, during transport.
After the dive, whether in the sea, a lake or even a swimming pool, rinse the regs in fresh water. Take the regs of the tank and make sure that you put the dust cap on the first stage in order to prevent that water will enter the first stage when rinsing it. Never depress the purge button of the second stage when washing it, as this also may allow water to enter the system. Rinse the second stages with plenty of fresh water and then shake all the water out before hanging it out to dry. Do not use high pressure hoses to clean your regualtors. Softly running water or a tub with water is the best way to deal with this. Never place any scuba equipment in the sun to dry. Hang the regs up in a cool and protected area to dry off.
I hope this helps
