Diving from cruise ship shore excursion?

Has anyone done a dive from a cruise ship shore excursion? Any good or bad information on this. We are taking my parents on a cruise for there 50th wedding anniversary and one of the stops is Grand Cayman. My wife and I would like to do some diving and are thinking of doing a two tank shore excursion. One of my questions for someone who has done this is it worth taking most of our equipment for one dive or would renting some be better (luggage space on cruise ship is limited)? Any helpfull information is apprieciated.
