Playa dive op / hotel rec. ?

Looking for recent trip reports, recommendations for shore diving, no cattle boats, good dive op and hotel in Playa del Carmen. NDS looking for nice pool, comfortable beach, walking distance to 5th Ave .. or would others that have been there prefer the diving, quieter pace of Akumal / Tulum ?
