Novelties in the Scuba Diving Portal
New Dive Guide, Australia
The Australia diving guide is now complete. The dive guide counts more than 110 information filled pages. Australia has been sorted by region and each region has it's own diving guide which includes dive site descriptions per region with highlights about what to see underwater in each region.
For every region a map showing the situation and depths has been included making it easy to see the area with the best potential for diving.
The photo gallery shows the type of fauna and flora to be seen while diving in Australia . All the photos are shot by professional or semi-professional photographers giving a choice of superb photos. The gallery is constantly growing and being updated regularly with new photos.
Also incorporated is a list of the diving centers, liveaboards, shops, schools and dive clubs  of each region.
This is a great tool for the Australia diving society and for people coming from abroad to plan their vacation and for travel agents, tour operators, instructors traveling with their groups to find the best locations and diving centers on place. Dive professionals located in Australia can also find useful contacts and information here.

 Breaking news
Rare dolphins are discovered deep in the jungle
The Irrawaddy, one of the world's rarest species of freshwater dolphins, have been found in surprisingly large numbers deep in the waterlogged jungles of Bangladesh.
The Irrawaddy is considered to be one of the world's rarest species of freshwater dolphin.

Conservationists thought the Irrawaddy had dwindled in number to just a few hundred, but they have now counted almost 6,000 of them in the Sundarban mangrove forests and the adjacent waters of the Bay of Bengal.
The forests of the Sundarban -- Bengali for "beautiful forest"  lie at the delta of the Ganges and two other rivers on the Bay of Bengal. Until now, little mammal research had taken place in the area.

"Every time we had done a study to look into the population (elsewhere), they came out critically endangered," said Brian Smith of the New York-based Wildlife Conservation Society, who led the study. "It was a very pleasant surprise and a shock to find that Bangladesh supports such a large number (of dolphins)..."

Conservationists are now working with the Bangladesh government to establish a protected area for the dolphins. "There are so many bad news (stories) coming out of the conservation community that this is a real sort of positive story," Smith said

Aeris
The best of both worlds. The innovative hybrid air cell design of the ATMOS LX allows the freedom of movement and other benefits you have come to expect from a rear-inflation BC. However, the unique wrap-around design provides you more lift than most BC’s; as well as an improved, upright orientation when on the surface.

The ATMOS LX offers multiple adjustment and attachment points, allowing customization of the BC specific to the divers needs. The ATMOS LX is weight-integrated with a combination of dumpable (20 lbs.) and non-dumpable (10 lbs.) weight pockets.

-Large, uniquely shaped rear-inflation bladder - Provides maximum amount of lift
-Wrap-around air lobes on each side allow for an upright position when on the surface
-QLR Positive-Lock Integrated Weight System accommodates up to 20 lbs. plus dual 5 lbs. rear weight pouches for improved in-water positioning
-Three (3) over pressure relief valves optimize buoyancy control
-Padded backpack with lumbar support

IAHD-Americas Makes Adaptive Scuba Viable for Dive Centers & Resorts
Plenty of opportunities for specialized training for dive professionals.

The International Association for Handicapped Divers (IAHD-Americas) is offering dive centers, independent instructors and resort operators the training, support and structure they need to make adaptive scuba a viable and on-going part of their business rather than a sporadic charitable cause. IAHD-Americas leverages the strength and experience of its parent organization, IAHD International, which has been serving handicapped divers, companions, instructors, and affiliates successfully since 1991. Now, IAHD-Americas is bringing their technical and business acumen to our region full force.

While there are other agencies that promote adaptive scuba programs, one important distinction in the IAHD-Americas adaptive scuba business model is the fact that the handicapped divers are trained for free. This raises the profile and the addressable market for IAHD dive centers, operators, resorts, and instructors. The approach works because the IAHD diver’s interests spread throughout their support circle to dive partners and enthusiasts who’ll pursue scuba as an extension of the handicapped person. And this extensive group represents an untapped market segment that is virtually unreachable to dive centers that fail to embrace and promote diving to the special needs community....

Marine Conservation
The Arctic is melting. .As goes the Arctic so goes the planet
The Arctic is one of the most beautiful and forbidding places on Earth, where temperatures regularly plunge well below zero and the time between sunset and sunrise is sometimes measured in months rather than hours. Yet despite these difficult conditions a variety of people and animals have adapted to thrive at the top of the world, including vibrant communities and iconic animal species.

The Arctic Ocean is facing incredible pressures. As goes the Arctic, so goes the planet. There is no single Arctic treaty, so it's up to our global community to save this vital part of our planet. Please join us today in this inspiring and important work.
