Breaking news
WWII German bomber wreck hauled up from sea
GERMAN military divers are working to hoist the wreck of a Stuka dive bomber from the floor of the Baltic Sea, a rare example of the plane that once wreaked havoc over Europe as part of the Nazis' war machine during World War II.

The single-engine monoplane carried sirens that produced a distinctive and terrifying screaming sound as it dove vertically to release its bombs or strafe targets with its machine guns. There are only two complete Stukas still around.

The Stuka wreck, first discovered in the 1990s when a fisherman's nets snagged on it, lies about 10 kilometers off the coast of the German Baltic island of Ruegen, in about 18 meters of water.

The divers have been working over the past week to prepare the bomber to be hoisted to the surface, using fire hoses to carefully free it from the sand. They have already brought up smaller pieces and also hauled up its motor over the weekend.

With the new training programs come revised DES requirements, which have been streamlined and offer three paths to recognition:
1.Certification as a Rescue Diver (or higher) and certification in DAN Diving Emergency Management Provider (DEMP)

3.Certification as a Rescue Diver and certification in DAN Basic Life Support and First Aid (BLSFA) plus these DAN courses:
Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries

Neurological Assessment

A pathway is available for those wishing to be DES Instructors or DES Instructor Trainers.

Any diver who applies for the DES rating between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2012, will receive a zippered pouch and a pair of emergency shears along with the regular certificate of completion, recognition card and patch.

Marine conservation
Sustainability is becoming hugely important for consumers who are looking to purchase seafood with a clear conscience - but why should you bother? Actually, you have the power to make a real difference. As a consumer, you can drive the market for sustainable seafood, by choosing fish only from healthy, responsibly-managed sources, and caught or farmed in ways which minimise damage to the marine environment. Here are some tips from the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the UK Charity for seas, shores and wildlife, to help you make the right sustainable choice when buying seafood.

1. Be better informed
2. Check our detailed sustainability ratings
3. Carry an MCS pocket guide
4. Spread the word
5. Variety is the spice of life
6. Choose fish caught using methods with lower environmental impact
7. Look at labelling
8. Look for the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) logo
9. Choose Organic
10. Avoid eating deepwater fish and sharks
