The London International Dive Show will open its doors  27/28 March 2010 with over 250 exhibitors.

This year will see one of the most exciting line-ups of diving speakers yet at a London Dive Show.

Two latest addition to the line-up of guest presenters are Mike Rutzen, one of the world’s best-known shark divers, and a perennial show favourite Monty Halls, who will update us on his latest adventures including his recent 'Lions and Sharks' Tour in South Africa.

Dr Andrea 'Queen of Mantas' Marshall will be coming over from Mozambique to talk about her work, the subject of a much-discussed BBC Natural World documentary recently. Californian Andrea moved to Mozambique seven years ago, and was the first person in the world to gain a manta ray PhD. She is at the forefront of efforts to protect the rays through research into their biology and behaviour...

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!

Update of - NEMO Air  Quick Connector Recall
We have discovered a quality issue on the O-ring assembled on the Nemo Air quick connector.

Under certain circumstances the O-ring can fail and consequently Nemo Air may start leaking through the Quick Connector. As a result, there is a continuous, albeit slow, loss of breathing gas. This situation could potentially lead to an accident, hence Mares has decided to issue a product recall.
The solution indicated was to substitute the existing  O-ring with a new one of different material and hardness.
Even if above solution is already improving Nemo Air Quick Connector performance, we further investigated in order to obtain the maximum performance and reliability and we have found that, in severe conditions, even with the new O-ring NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR was leaking.

We have therefore designed a NEW NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY FEMALE (code 44200829) featuring a new seal and seat. This solution is fully satisfactory.
We ask you therefore TO REPLACE the mentioned QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY FEMALE with the new one.

Nonetheless for your personal safety and to avoid possible dangerous accidents: stop diving with a quick connector subject to this recall until this is not removed and replaced with the new one.

• Affected products and codes are:
1. Finished goods
414158 – DIVE COMPUTER NEMO AIR
414159 - DIVE COMPUTER NEMO AIR W/COMPASS NO
2. Spare parts
44200771 – HP HOSE W/QUICK CONNECTOR NEMO AIR
44200770 – QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY. FEMALE NEMO AIR

Please contact the nearest authorized Mares Service Center to schedule the replacement of your Nemo Air Quick Connector. Remind that Nemo Air Quick Connector must be removed and substituted with the new one at no charge.

More information will be published on: www.mares.com

PADI Chosen Again as the Best Diving Instruction Organization

On theOn the28th of January 2010 it was again time – the acclaimed tauchen Awards were presented in the framework of the BOOT trade show in Düsseldorf. Alexandra Jahr, managing director of the Top Special publishing house and Carolyn Martin, chief editor of tauchen, were the moderators at the presentation of the prize winners.

"We don’t see it as a self-evident decision that this prize is awarded to us", commented Jean-Claude Monachon, Executive Director of PADI Europe, in regard to winning first place, "much more than that, it is a motivation for us to boost our dedication each year, to see that times change and to provide our members with the most modern materials and to support them in all manner necessary. Also in times of economic crisis, to be able to work with motivated members gives us a special feeling of pride. For that reason I give them all my thanks. Only through the excellent work of our more than 1,100 Dive Centers and Resorts as well as the more than 30,000 active members are we able to receive this award again this year. We see it as confirmation of our concept that customer quality is the highest value."

Marine Conservation
HEPCA launches Red Sea Defender

Hepca recently announced the launch of the Red Sea Defender, the first maritime vessel dedicated to research and conservation activity in the Red Sea.

Despite the recognition of the ecological value of the Red Sea's living resources, the pursuit of the required knowledge to conserve and sustainably manage these treasures through scientific study has been slow. This has been mainly due to lack of funding and the absence of the essential facilities for scientific investigation and long term research projects in the region. As the Red Sea faces continuous and increasingly emerging threats there has never been a more important time to address this.

A number of educational outreach programs are in development including:
-Introduction to the Red Sea Marine Environment
-Student outreach program
-Sensitive species monitoring programs...

The End of the Line is the first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans first released in cinemas in the UK in June 2009

In the film we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.
It examines the imminent extinction of bluefin tuna, brought on by increasing western demand for sushi; the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish; and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation.

Filmed over two years, The End of the Line follows the investigative reporter Charles Clover as he confronts politicians and celebrity restaurateurs, who exhibit little regard for the damage they are doing to the oceans....

Scientists predict that if we continue fishing as we are now, we will see the end of most seafood by 2048.

The End of the Line chronicles how demand for cod off the coast of Newfoundland in the early 1990s led to the decimation of the most abundant cod population in the world, how hi-tech fishing vessels leave no escape routes for fish populations and how farmed fish as a solution is a myth...

Steven Fry and Sarah Brown among others twittered their support for the film and major UK retailers as a direct result of watching the film changed the fish they sold to sustainable sources. The End of the Line DVD is now available for purchase at www.endoftheline.com at a special promotional price of £10 compared to the RRP £14.99.
