 Breaking news
A recent survey of the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef has found coral flourishing in deep waters, a stark contrast to the shallower reefs that have seen a drastic decline over the last few decades.

The healthy coral populations were discovered to be below 30 meters -- beyond the usual reach of most scuba divers -- and even found at depths of 80 meters, according to the Catlin Seaview Survey.

"The Holmes and Flinders Reefs in the Coral Sea are renowned for having been badly damaged, said Pim Bongaerts, of the University of Queensland's Global Change Institute, who was leading the deep reef survey.

The benefits of Silicone ZipSeals:
More UV and ozone resistant so they will last longer in most conditions
Softer and more comfortable to wear
Excellent for people with latex allergies
Great for divers with prominent wrist tendons creating a drier dive when flexing hands
Easy to put on and take off due to excellent stretch and slick coating applied to the inside of the seal
Can be used on all DUI drysuits already fitted with DUI neck ZipRings and most DUI wrist ZipRings

DUI’s new Silicone ZipSeals are available now on both new DUI drysuits as well as replacement parts for existing DUI drysuits fitted with DUI ZipRings.

Nominations now open for 2013 DAN Rolex Diver of the Year Award
The DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year Award is easily one of the most prestigious awards given out in the dive industry. This award recognizes an outstanding individual who has significantly contributed to scuba diving safety or the mission of DAN. The DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year receives a specially engraved Rolex Submariner watch.

Over the years hundreds of deserving individuals have been nominated for the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year award. However, only one individual is recognized each year. Although many past winners of the Award, now in its 25th Year, have been noted industry professionals, the nominations are open to divers of all levels. Award criteria are not based on an individual’s area of expertise or experience level, rather the focus is on the impact of their work on diving safety.

All nominations must be received no later than December 31, 2012

Marine conservation
Act for the angelfish by flipping the switch. It's so easy to forget but yet so easy to do. Every time you walk out of a room turn off your lights, fans, computer monitor, anything that is using energy that you won't use when outside the room. Same idea; if you plan on sitting in your car for more then a couple seconds, just turn your engine off. It's actually hard to imagine how much energy people could save if everyone consistently turned things off when not in use.

Turn the tide for turtles by going energy star. If you are in the market for a new major appliance or even just a light bulb, it's a great way to show your blue side. Today, energy efficient appliances are doing the same job but with substantially less energy then their older counterparts. The choices we make like choosing a laptop over a desktop or saying no to the electric can opener will all contribute to the ambition of saving a lot of energy.

Make a whale of an effort by getting involved with green energy. Renewable energies like solar and wind power are becoming more and more popular sources that can supply your houses and businesses with energy. As many wait for prices to come down, it's great to become more knowledgeable on how these systems work and how they can work for you. By educating yourself on the issue of green energies, you can become more engaged in the community, state, and nation wide discussions on where we get our energy from in the future.
