Mask, Fins, Snorkel maintenance

Some of you might have had the experience of standing on the diving platform of the boat, nearly ready to jump into the water, a last tightening of the fin or mask strap and it cracks! To prevent these situations, it’s a good idea to inspect your mask, fins and snorkel before the dive.

Stretch out all straps to look for small cracks in the rubber or the silicone and check if the buckles are intact. If necessary, replace the damaged items.

The silicone mask body should be inspected as well for tears or weakened seals, the plastic frame and the glasses checked for cracks.

Finally examine your mouthpiece and possibly the diaphram of your snorkel to make sure that they have no tears.

After the dive, rinse the mask, fins and snorkel with fresh water and let them dry in a place without direct sunlight.

The best way to store your mask is to put it in a mask box or special mask bag which protects it from damage. Store your fins in a position, which doesn’t bend the fin blades out of shape.
